Jack and Charlie - both accidental acquisitions had to move home again - not everyone likes cats.
Jack the cat was found in half a whiskey barrel at only a few
months old. He found that Henley's garden center had become a
wonderful jungle with various things to keep him happy. When winter
came around, we took Jack indoors, and set him up with a habitable
home. After Jack had lived with us for a number of months, we started
letting him out to wander the garden center again. As mellow as he'd
been growing up in the store, laying on the counters or shelves
throughout the store, he procured a precarious night...
He
disappeared for a few weeks, and when we sent a notice in the paper,
someone came to the store claiming "I found your missing cat!", and
held up Charlie; a long-haired lanky kitten with paws large enough to
palm a tennis ball. Charlie was not the kitten we'd lost, but as he
seemed about the same age, we figured to take him in as another shop
cat. After a week of having Charlie as the new resident mouser, we had
a surprise when Jack was brought back! He was quite full and happy, as
he had been taken care of by his rescuers.
Jack and Charlie
live with Chris Henley now, the manager of the store; because, although
it may be fun for most people to find cats patrolling behind the
merchandise, some customers are very afraid of cats, so we decided to
find them a home for a while. There are pictures of the two playing
and doing what they love at his house here in West Point.
